Mitsubishi Motors unveils its new miniature electric car, the eK X EV

Mitsubishi Motors unveiled its miniature electric vehicle, the eK X EV, on May 20. The new miniature electric vehicle is a joint project with Nissan, planned and developed and managed by NMKV, a joint venture between the two companies, and will be launched this summer as the commercial ev charging station, a new addition to Mitsubishi Motors’ eK X series, and by Nissan under the name Nissan Sakura (Nissan Sakura).

The dimensions of the eK X EV are 3,395mm long x 1,475mm wide x 1,655mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,495mm. The model is equipped with a drive battery with a total power of 20kWh and a driving range of 180km (WLTC conditions) on a single charge, which is sufficient for daily use such as commuting, shopping and transportation. The battery has a slim design and is mounted under the floor to ensure a comfortable and spacious interior.

The battery uses a cooling system using an air-conditioning refrigerant to control temperature rise and maintain a high charge even after repeated high-speed driving and rapid charging. The model has a maximum torque of 195Nm, about twice that of the gasoline turbocharged model, and the motor’s damping performance has been improved for smooth, powerful driving, which is the appeal of a pure electric vehicle.

There are three driving modes: normal (NORMAL, the best mode for city driving), economy (ECO, which suppresses motor output to improve fuel consumption) and sport (SPORT, with fast throttle response for sharp runs). An innovative pedal operation mode that controls acceleration and deceleration by simply depressing the accelerator pedal has also been adopted.

In terms of driver assistance functions, the mobil Mitsubishi is the first to feature Mitsubishi Motors’ My Pilot system that helps drivers park smoothly. The system automatically detects available parking spaces and can be used for reverse, forward or parallel parking (manufacturer-installed option for P grade).

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is 2,398,000 yen to 2,932,600 yen (tax included). With subsidies, the actual purchase price starts at 1,848,000 yen. The roll-out ceremony for the pure electric eK-Cross and Nissan Sakura was held at Mitsubishi Motors’ Mizushima Works on May 20.
